Making Engaging Digital Presentations with Freepath

Posted By: Sarah Perez | Aug 27th @ 11:42 AM

Freepath 2.0 is a new application that lets you create presentations that are mashups of web content and content from your PC. So, instead of a traditional PowerPoint, for example, your Freepath presentation could combine a PowerPoint file with images, videos, music, PDFs, Word, and Excel documents and play them as a seamless digital presentation. You can integrate web content like YouTube videos, slideshow’s from slide.com, music from Pandora, images from flickr or photobucket, and more alongside files saved on your PC like those from Office documents, PDFs, Quicktime videos, or Flash files.

The Freepath 2.0 software offers three different viewing modes: a preview mode which shows you digital assets on the right but also makes the playlist and playlist library accessible, a full screen mode (like what PowerPoint offers), and a dual screen mode which shows the presentation both on your screen and that of an external monitor. This dual monitor mode is also compatible with WebEx, GoToMeeting, Live Meeting, and Intercall.

If you’re more comfortable creating presentations in PowerPoint and are hesitant to try a new tool like this, you can actually prepare your slides in PowerPoint itself and then drag them into FreePath’s downloadable software to take advantage of the other tools that it provides.

When complete, your presentations can be shared with the Freepath community on myFreepath.com, which is similar to how Slideshare operates. All beta users receive 100 MB of free storage space in this community.

DE Tools of the Trade

Review of Freepath from an educator in Canada.

FREEPATH: Multimedia Presentation Tool

Here’s another tool that’s been generating a lot of “buzz” on the ‘Net. It’s called FREEPATH and it’s a fantastic multimedia creation tool but only for folks running Windows computers.FREEPATH comes in two parts. The first is a downloadable program that’s used to create multimedia. This program allows the user to mix together movies, sound, music, video clips, files of different types; PDF’s PowerPoint presentations, Word Documents on to a type of storyboard where all the items can be blended into one presentation.

If the demo video is to be believed, writing this blog entry is more difficult then creating a FREEPATH presentation.

Once created, the presentation can be uploaded to the FREEPATH web site where it can be shared with everyone on the web or designed viewers only.

Registration is required but it’s free.

Check it out at:

Enjoy :-)

(ed. note - Yes, it is to be believed!)

Hindu Times

Freepath is being noticed around the world. Check out this review from the Hindu Times in India. It’s a long article that touches on many tools, but this is the part we found most interesting:

Freepath 2.0 helps us combine different types of files (PPT/Excel/PDF documents, flash videos, web sites and images ) and pack them into a playlist that can be displayed within it. All the playlists created thus will be listed in the Freepath’s interface under the ‘Library’ section. One can populate the presentation slides by simply dragging and dropping files to the Freepath’s ‘Playlist’ area. Each of the slides can be arranged according to your choice.

Yet another wonderful feature of this tool is ‘Prep Video’ option that allows you to edit a video slide. Assume you need to integrate a video file with your presentation but wish to show only a specific portion of it. For this, just right-click on the video slide, access the ‘Prep Video’ feature and select the start and end parts of your preferred segment using the appropriate buttons.

Also, if you are showing an Excel sheet and noticed an error, you can edit it live on the presentation screen (no need to load the Excel software).

Education is an area that thrives with a community willing to share/collaborate. In this respect, it is an excellent domain where Web 2.0 model fits quite well. This means any tool meant for the educational domain should have a Web 2.0 feature too. Freepath is a right development in this direction. Freepath’s service ‘Myfreepath’ (https:// www.myfreepath.com/) allows you to upload your playlists on to its server for sharing them with others.

Cool Cat Teacher Blog

This site was founded by one of the cofounders of the original Powerschool. It lets you play multiple things and mash up a presentation. This looks like it has fascinating applications.

Sacramento Business Journal

Freepath gives it away

Folsom startup Freepath Inc. has changed direction with the public beta release of its new presentation software, giving away Freepath 2.0 for free and launching a no-charge Web community where users can share content.

The company’s software allows users to create presentations integrating different media types, such as video, Microsoft Corp.’s PowerPoint, and Adobe Systems Inc.’s Portable Document Format (PDF). Such media tools normally don’t play well together.

The company sold the old Freepath 1.0 for $149 and distributed it on disc. By offering 2.0 for free at freepath.com, executives hope to build the company’s user base “as quickly and as deeply as possible,” chief executive officer John Stone said. Such a large group, he said, opens chances for advertising and other revenue opportunities.

The Freepath technology originated in the church market, in presentation software called SundayPlus, which has grown to some 20,000 paid users. “We hope to ramp up users in education and corporate training,” Stone said.

It’s too early to tell about the revenue part of the plan, but Freepath 2.0 attracted 1,000 users in its first few days online.
